Celebrating Success Stories
This month, we’ve had the privilege of sharing the stories of individuals who’ve found meaningful employment with the help of Perspectives’ Supported Employment Services. Their achievements remind us of the potential within everyone, regardless of disability.Take Andrew, for example. With support from our team, Andrew secured a new role at Chartwells at EWG Jr/Sr High School, marking an exciting start to his career. Similarly, Cathy recently began working at Michaels in Warwick, where her love for crafting and attention to detail shines through in her work. Then there’s Leah, who has been part of the Applebee’s team for a decade—her dedication and hard work are a testament to what long-term support and collaboration can accomplish. These stories are just a glimpse of the positive impact inclusive employment can have on both individuals and their workplaces.
The Role of Supported Employment Services
At Perspectives, we’re committed to helping individuals with disabilities find, secure, and succeed in community-based jobs that they love. Our Supported Employment Services, led by ACRE-certified professionals, offer everything from skills assessments and interview practice to on-the-job coaching and retention support. The goal? To empower individuals to take ownership of their work, build confidence, and foster meaningful connections with their coworkers. It’s part of our “Employment First” philosophy, where community-based, integrated employment is the priority. By working closely with local businesses, we help ensure individuals are accommodated and supported to do their best work—strengthening not just individuals but entire teams.
Employment by the Numbers
The success of these individuals isn’t just anecdotal. This year, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that 22.5% of people with disabilities were employed in 2023—the highest percentage since 2008. This is an exciting trend that speaks to the growing opportunities and inclusion in workplaces across the country. Workers with disabilities bring diverse perspectives, fresh ideas, and a dedication that helps teams thrive. Whether it’s through service jobs or entrepreneurship, they continue to make our communities stronger.Training the Next Generation of Job Coaches
Our commitment to disability employment doesn’t stop with job placement. We also equip Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) with the skills they need to become effective job coaches through our SE101 training program. This comprehensive, 40-hour training provides essential tools for agencies looking to support individuals with disabilities in finding and maintaining employment. SE101 offers in-person or remote training options, and graduates receive a certificate upon completion, ensuring they’re ready to help individuals succeed in their roles.Looking Ahead
As we wrap up NDEAM, we want to thank everyone—our dedicated team, supportive employers, and of course, the hardworking individuals with disabilities—who have made this month a success. But the work doesn’t stop here. Let’s continue fostering inclusive workplaces year-round, where everyone has the opportunity to shine. If you’re interested in learning more about how Perspectives’ Supported Employment Services or SE101 training can help you or your agency, we’re here to guide you every step of the way. Together, we can build a future where everyone has the chance to find meaningful employment and contribute to their community.
