OVERVIEW
As a Peer Mentor, your role will be to support and empower individuals with disabilities by sharing your own experiences, offering guidance, and helping them navigate various aspects of life, such as employment, independent living, and community engagement. Peer Mentors will do this by sharing resources, and using the knowledge you learned from the Peer Mentor training. Part of being a Peer Mentor is providing encouragement and practical support based on your own lived experiences.
As a Peer Mentor you are guided by the Peer Mentor Intellectual Disability or Developmental Disabilities “Code of Conduct" and Perspectives Mission, Core Values and Philosophies. To be considered a Peer Mentor, you must have lived experience with intellectual or developmental disabilities.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Access to reliable transportation
- Favorable Criminal Background Check & Monthly OIG Clearances
- Required to attend Day 1 of New Employee Orientation, held Mondays from 8:00am to 4:00pm
- Lived experience with intellectual or developmental disability services
- Ability to establish rapport and relate sensitively to participants and their caregivers
- Ability to prepare & engage people with intellectual/developmental disabilities in the person-centered planning process
- Good computer skills
- Excellent attention to detail and follow-through
- Ability to take initiative and be a creative problem solver
- High energy & motivation to help participants succeed
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent
