Kinship Care
The Kinship Care policy permits eligible individuals to choose a non-legally responsible, qualified family member to assist in providing care and support in the community through the Shared Living Arrangements program.

This policy is designed to allow for family members of an individual with an intellectual or developmental disability to live together due to changing circumstances, such as aging caregiver parents or the loss of a caregiver parent. This arrangement further minimizes the impact of moving into a new home by establishing the individual's residency within the bounds of the family, typically with siblings.
ELIGIBILITY
To be eligible for Kinship Care, a family member of the supported individual must meet the requirements of RI BHDDH Eligibility Policy for Residential Services and complete the SLA application process.
APPLICATION PROCESS
