*Deaf Awareness Week 2010*

*February 8-12*

*Monday February 8* - Opening Lecture with Mr. Kevin Nolan, the first elected Deaf politician in the country, served Northampton region. This will be held in the Emerson building, Room 101 at 7:30pm

*Tuesday February 9* - Growing up Deaf: A Panel Discussion, which will be a discussion and Q&A with Deaf individuals about their life experiences. Featuring: John Pirone, Coordinator of Deaf Services at Northeastern University Nini Silver, Disability Policy Consortium community organizer Rosa Lee Timm, actress and entertainer John Wilcox, educator at Horace Mann School for the Deaf. This will be held in the Emerson building, Room 303 at 7:30pm.

*Wednesday February 10* - Sweet Nothing in my Ear & A Discussion on Ethics of Cochlear Implants. This is a stirring film on cochlear implantation featuring Marlee Matlin and Jeff Daniels, followed by a discussion about the ethics of cochlear implantation with: Dr. Lee, Professor at Harvard Medical School and surgeon at Mass Eye and Ear Infirmary & Dr. Hoffmeister, Professor and Director of Boston Universitys Deaf Studies Program. This will be held in the Emerson building, Room 303 at 7:30pm.

*Thursday February 11* - Snack n Sign! Meet other deaf and hearing individuals in the community interested in Deaf culture and ASL! If you don't know ASL, but want to learn - come with an open mind and have fun! This will be a casual gathering with hors d'oeuvres and desserts. ASL Games and improvisational poetry are encouraged!Ticknor Lounge (in Boylston Hall) at 7:30pm. Please RSVP in advance at the Facebook event* (http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=273538127105#/event.php?eid=272526762169) so we know how much food to provide!

*Friday February 12* - An Evening of Storytelling with Peter Cook, with a special performance of American Sign Language poetry and storytelling. This will be held in the Agassiz Theatre at 7:30pm
