Running the Court with Perspectives Special Olympics Basketball
Perspectives Corporation is currently enjoying participating in Special Olympics Unified Basketball for its second year. This year the team has been plagued with the injury bug as Steve from Rodman has missed the entire season due to injury and Jessica at Tanglewood was sidelined due to injury about halfway in the season and will have to sit out for the remainder. Due to these injuries, the rest of the athletes and partners have had to pick up the pace; the athletes sometimes having to play the entire game with no breaks! Offensively, Mike L. from Davisville has been unstoppable, having consecutive high scoring games the past two weeks of 24 and 16 points. John and Anthony from EG have also been a very strong presence on both defense and offense, John with his incredible hustle and Anthony with his tremendous rebounding ability and down-low shooting. Mike S. at Davisville has been a big factor each game, showing fearless in-your-face defense on some of the opposing teams’ toughest players. The partners on the team have been sharing in on the intensity by helping to keep the pace of the game quick while also stressing the importance of playing as a team and having fun.

The team has seen a number of close games that have come down to the last second while also having its share of blow outs. Despite what the outcomes may be, each game the athletes and partners come ready to play and have fun and leave the game excited for next week’s game. They currently stand with a record of 4-2 with only one game left before the year end tournament.

Perspectives will finish the regular season next at 8:30pm on Wednesday, Dec. 2nd at Wheeler School in Seekonk. The Tournament will take place at Providence College, the first game starting at 10:30am and the second game being at 1:30pm if they win,12:30pm if they lose the first game. Feel free to come to the games to cheer the athletes and partners on…they deserve it!!
