Trauma Informed Care Conference and Training

By Jason Carpenter | February 6, 2017

Last week, Senior Directors and Clinicians from Perspectives Corporation attended the Trauma Informed Care (TIC) ConferenceandTraining for Trainers at Rhode Island College (RIC).

Attendees included administrators and staff from 12 private providers of services and supports to people with developmental disabilities throughout RI as well as representatives from RICLAS, the Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE), the Rhode Island Department of Corrections, and the RI Dept. of Behavioral Healthcare, Developmental Disabilities and Hospitals (BHDDH).

The TIC Conference was made possible by CPNRI and the Best Practices Group. Speakers included experts in TIC from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, SAMHSA, and the National Center for Trauma Informed Care.

The TIC Conference is part of ongoing efforts to bring Trauma Informed Approaches to our work with adults who have Intellectual\Developmental Disabilities — and to the greater RI community of human service providers and educators — toward the goal of reducing the use of physical and other coercive or aversive interventions/techniques in response to challenging behaviors.
