Provided one on one support staff for Travis in the Chariho School System. EPSDT referrals continue to increase. Special Olympics team for the clients of Perspectives is formed. | ||

Mar 28, 1978 | Perspectives Corporation was formed and awarded the contract for two programs, formerly operated by the Westerly chapter of RIARC: Highland Manor Group Home, Westerly - 18 people; Westerly Apartment Program, Westerly - 8 people. | ||
Sep 1, 1977 | Alternatives, Inc was formed in 1977. It was awarded a State contract to provide services for two group homes and an apartment program formerly operated by South County R.I.A.R.C. (R.I. Association of Retarded Citizens). These programs included: 8 Kenyon Ave, Wakefield - 11 people; 425 Tower Hill Road, Wickford - 13 people; Wakefield Apartment Program, Wakefield - 14 people. | ||
May 1, 1977 | New providers were being solicited to provide services to people who currently lived at the large State institution Ladd School. Perspectives was the first of the new residential providers chosen through a competitive bid process. Deinsitiutuionalization was occuring because of a series of lawsuits against the State of Rhode Island, that determined that conditions were so bad at Ladd that it was not remedial and the courts ordered it closed and the people living there be given a chance to live in the community. |
